what is the pal program?

Geared towards youth who identify as trans, nonbinary, gender-expansive, or in a questioning period in their gender journeys, the Possibility Adult Leader (PAL) program provides youth with meaningful, consistent, and often life saving, mentor relationships.

Research shows that mental health outcomes for trans and gender expansive youth are significantly improved with safe, affirming mentor relationships. In fact, according to the Trevor Project, youth who could identify at least one safe, affirming adult in their lives were 40% less likely to report a suicide attempt in the past year (resource).

By engaging with Possibility Adult Leaders (PALs), youth are able to witness what it looks like to thrive as a trans or gender expansive adult. By sharing wisdom gained through lived experience, PALs provide an invaluable resource of joy, connection, and hope for the future.

In the same way, PALs describe this connection as mutually beneficial and find healing and joy through intergenerational community. If you are interested in participating in the PAL program, please read on!

PALs for Youth

Youth meet in-person (or virtually) with a Possibility Adult Leader (PAL), a trans, nonbinary, or gender expansive identified adult, and engage in creative and fun activities while processing personal narratives. For example, developing an artistic process like writing poetry or composing a song, engaging in dance and movement, attending a museum exhibition, thrift shopping for gender-affirming attire, playing sports, and much more! All centering the youth individual’s passions and joy in confidential and easy-going settings.
